Fishing on the Concho RiverFlowing 24 miles through Tom Green County, the Concho River then flows 29 miles through Concho County, joining the Colorado River 12 miles northeast of Paint Rock. Rivers in this region are characterized by rolling hills and semi-arid ranches and farmlands.
Many of the outcroppings in the Concho contain limestone and shrubs that include mesquite, yucca, elm, and willow. The area is also covered with grasses and cacti. Concho has three major reservoirs on the three upper forks. The main stream is controlled by these reservoirs. |
Angling Opportunities
With Illinois and Sago pondweeds, coontail, cattail, and water willow, fishing is fair for largemouth bass, catfish, crappie. Near Twin Buttes, most of the canopy consists of flooded terrestrial vegetation. Structural features include mud flats, drop-offs, submerged humps, creek channels, a long rip-rapped dam, and a few areas of rock.

Here's What You'll Catch
- Black bass - All largemouth and smallmouth bass species have a minimum length limit of 14 inches. There is no minimum length for Alabama or Guadalupe bass. There is a daily bag limit of 5 black bass in any combination.
- White, striped, and yellow bass - Striped bass has a minimum length limit of 18 inches and a daily bag limit of five fish. White bass has a minimum length of 10 inches and a daily bag limit of 25 fish . Yellow bass does not have a minimum length limit or a daily bag limit.
- Carp - There is no minimum length limit or daily bag limit for common carp.
- Catfish - Channel and blue catfish have no minimum size requirement, and the daily bag limit for channel and blue catfish is five. For flathead catfish, minimum length is 18 inches and daily bag is 5.
- Crappie - For white and black crappie, their hybrids and subspecies, minimum length limit is 10 inches. Daily bag limit is 25 in any combination.
- Gar - There is no daily bag limit for the alligator gar. Other species do not have any daily bag limit.
Reporting of Alligator Gar - All alligator gar harvested from public waters of the state other than Falcon International Reservoir must be reported within 24 hours through a mobile app or online.
During optimum spawning conditions, some areas may be temporarily closed to alligator gar fishing.
- Sunfish - There is no minimum length or daily bag limit on bluegill, redear, warmouth or other species of sunfish.
- Trout - In the wild, you can catch five trout in any combination at any time each day for brown trout, rainbow trout, hybrid trout and their subspecies.
